AI & Machine Learning

Machine learning for kids

Introducing kids to machine learning isn’t just about teaching them how computers learn—it’s about developing essential computational thinking skills that form the backbone of modern problem-solving. Through hands-on projects in this course, children learn to break down complex tasks, recognize patterns in data, and design logical, step-by-step solutions—all while building real AI models using Python and tools like PyTorch. By connecting abstract concepts to real-world applications, the course nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and digital fluency—empowering young learners with the mindset and skills they’ll need to thrive in the tech-driven future.

See the magic of our 3D games design course for kids!

Project 1 - First-Person Shooter

For their first project, students will create a First-Person Shooter (FPS) game. This project provides a fun and engaging introduction to the basics of 3D game design.

Project 2 - Mario-like Sidescroller Game

For the  second project, the student will create a Mario-like Sidescroller Game.
The student will be introduced to new uses for tools they learned before, as well as more complex Game mechanics!

Project 3 - 3rd Person Shooter game

In the final project the student will explore another Game Genre and create a 3rd Person Shooter game. This capstone experience complates the foundational journey, designed to challenge students and refine their skills.

Don’t just write "prompts" – learn to make the next AI!

Master AI, the powerful tool shaping the future

Ever wondered how AI like ChatGPT, Google Gemini or Meta AI work, and how they’re made? Our AI & Machine Learning course will give 9-16 year olds skills and knowledge in this cutting edge field that will give them a head start on the future of tech.

Join your classmates and learn how to build decision trees, random forests and neural networks, train them to perform tasks and test them using Python – a massively popular programming language used by companies like Microsoft and Google. Along the way you’ll use Python libraries such as Pytorch and Pandas, expanding your skillset of industry-standard tools.

This course has been designed by an astrophysicist researcher with a background in machine learning and data science, so you’ll receive the same quality training as students studying science and data analysis courses at university… although we like to think ours is a bit more fun!

But don’t just take our word for it. The quality of this course has been endorsed by NCFE, a nationally recognised awarding body. And once you’ve completed the course, you’ll receive an accredited qualification from them – we’re the only provider to offer this qualification, setting you apart.

Everything you need to know about AI & Machine Learning...

Python is the platform on which students will learn how to build, train and test machine learning algorithms (AI). Through industry-standard tools like PyTorch and using the equally ubiquitous interactive development environment VScode, students will learn how the incredibly powerful AI models like ChatGPT or Google Gemini are made, as well as the background and theory that allows AI to be designed and trained. They’ll also learn valuable data analysis and visualisation tools.

Programming is problem solving incarnate – students will learn the skills that are the foundation of maths, science and logic through interactive, challenging and rewarding projects. They’ll also learn some astronomy too – written by an astrophysicist, the projects connect real and fascinating concepts, like the Earth’s motion around the Sun or the brightness of a quasar, to the abstract statistics that AI are actually based on.

This course will help your child learn how to learn; building skills and confidence in assimilating information and building knowledge, as well as develop problem solving and critical thinking skills that usually won’t be taught until university. All of these will help your child throughout the rest of their education and beyond, in addition to the scientific knowledge also taught in this course.

At Software Academy, you’ll also have the option to get your child certified through three levels of NCFE accredited qualifications; Level 1 Award, Level 2 Certificate and Level 3 Diploma.

Understanding the terminology, theory and application of machine learning in building AI will give your child access to the growing AI techspace, allowing them to discover a wide range of career paths. Your child will learn complex programming concepts as they learn Python, giving them wider access to coding and data science/analysis careers. They’ll also discover Astrophysics in ways that school doesn’t teach, getting knowledge and insight that will benefit them at school but also open their eyes to a future in STEM.

By completing this camp, students will have a finished project to share with family & friends. But that’s not all! Their project will be seen as a outstanding portfolio piece & considered a great achievement by potential schools, colleges and even employers!
Additionally, by completing a camp, students will achieve 1/2 of the criteria required to get an NCFE accredited qualification, should you choose to get your child officially certified!

This course is designed to be fun and engaging, but alongside teaching coding and science the overall goal is to give your child a stronger understanding of AI. As AI gets more powerful, the lines between reality and convincing fiction are growing more blurred; knowing how AI works will let your child tell the difference, and prepare them for not only living in the future of AI but working at its forefront as an innovator rather than a consumer.
