FAQ

What is Computer Basics, and what does it teach?

Computer Basics is Software Academy’s introductory course for beginners aged 6+. The course covers 3 different projects that give your child a great foundational understanding of programming.

They will learn interactive gameplay using mechanics such as collision detection, win/lose conditions and scoring systems. Advanced coding techniques such as randomised timers, speed adjustments and more!

How does the course teach computing concepts to young children?

Depending on the format you choose, your child either joins live online sessions with a real tutor (Term Time and Private Tuition), where they can ask questions and get help in real time, or learns at their own pace through guided video tutorials with tutor support available when needed (Self-guided).

What is the benefit of learning Scratch for my child, and why do we learn this first?

Scratch uses drag-and-drop blocks instead of typed code, so kids learn sequencing, loops, and logic without worrying about syntax. This builds confidence and makes the move to text-based languages like Python much smoother later on.

What will my child be able to do after completing a course in Computer Basics?

Your child will navigate a computer confidently, understand core computing concepts, and build their own small games using block-based coding. They’ll also hold an NCFE-accredited qualification.

Start your child’s coding lessons at a young age. Both parents and kids love the classes as they’re easy enough for a child as young as 6 to comprehend! Check out what they say below.
