Coding Courses UK: What’s In It for Your Child?

Our course is designed to teach coding in a fun and engaging way. Students will learn how to build their own games using Python and PyGame. Starting with the basics, they’ll learn game design principles, create interactive gameplay, and develop coding skills through fun projects like 2D platformers and arcade classics.

As they progress, they’ll tackle more advanced topics like AI and game optimisation. Each training course can open doors for mastery of programming languages, software development, machine learning, web development, data science, and more. Your child will also develop practical skills needed for the tech industry, such as problem-solving, patience, and persistence. We ensure fun-filled sessions every lesson day.

After a successful completion of the online coding courses, students will have a portfolio of games, well-developed tech skills, and a solid foundation in programming. Their coding knowledge and grasp of coding concepts will bring them to places. Building websites using their coding experience will be a piece of cake for them and can be a lucrative career in the tech industry.

FAQ

What age group are these coding courses suitable for?
Our Computer Games Programming courses are designed for students aged 9 to 16 years old. We group lessons by age and ability, so younger students can start with beginner-friendly tools while older learners tackle more advanced coding concepts. And there’s always private tuition for those who want to have their own dedicated tutor for their own individual learning!
Do my children need any previous coding experience?
No previous experience is required. We welcome complete beginners as well as students who already have some coding knowledge. Our courses are structured so every student can start at the right level and progress at their own pace.
How are the classes structured (levels, projects, progression)?
Students work through levelled qualifications that gradually build their skills. Each level introduces new coding concepts through hands-on projects such as creating simple 2D games, developing interactive applications, and eventually moving towards more complex programming tasks. Progress is measured not just by lessons completed but by the finished projects students produce, giving them real games to showcase as they advance.
What programming languages will my child learn?

We introduce students to industry-relevant languages and tools suited to their age:
Students start with Python and PyGame, where they learn text-based programming and game development in visual studios.
As they learn, students may progress further into advanced projects using other professional software and libraries.

How is this course different from other kids' coding classes?
Software Academy is the only academy approved by the NCFE to award accredited qualifications to children. Our courses are designed by university educators, delivering university-level education adapted for young learners. Unlike many clubs or after-school classes, students leave with prestigious NCFE-accredited qualifications that can support entry into college, university, and future careers. Combined with our project-based approach and one-to-one support, this course gives children a real head start in both coding and academic achievement.
